In the history of Silvia Marina there are many barbarian invasions that came from the sea and brought death and destruction. The best expression of the Silvi’s popular culture was based on these fateful events. A tradition born in the XVI century, connected with the terrible facts of the Turkish robbers is that of the "Ciancialone". It is celebrated the last Sunday of May and all the city is involved in the preparation of a big roll made of linked canes, till 10 metres high.
